many members of the free webmail service "web.de" have had this problem: it's their birthday and they receive a "present" from web.de: a free 3-months-membership at the "web.de club" that offers better security, spam filters and useless crap like smilies and templates to include in html emails. after the three months, if you don't tell them you want to quit, you have to pay for the service. the problem is is that you will get no notice when the three months are over and tht you never notice that you ARE in the club if you just use their POP3 delivery and never log on to the webmail service - it had happened to me: i probably clicked on the "continue to open your birthday present" nag screen that appears on the webmail login with just a tiny notice on the bottom about the terms and services. i just logged in once to activate mail forwarding and never thought about web.de again - until i received bills from them. i kept ignoring the bills until i received an encashment notice from web.de's lawyers...
i dissent to everything, but they kept bugging me....then i found a good lawyer who is specialized in the web.de problem and he assured me that they won't bug me anymore...a letter from his office...and: bingo! i was a regular user again and never received bills or mail from the web.de bastards anymore...
if you happen to have the same problem, here is the link to my lawyer:
