the:italian:job - LPM day 2
fflux was the first who woke up and he took a shower to kill his headache, but the showering was everything else but luxurious...because there was no threshold at the bathroom's door and the water had all liberty to slowly flow through the hallway... After cleaning up the mess, fllux found the small mokka maker and prepared some espressi while the other two made the flood in the hallway rise even higher. three stomachs were growling, so the small market around the street was their next destinationn.

=ff= were suited in their tuxedos, shades and ties, equipped with briefcases and a video camera: it was time now to shoot footage for their gig which was coming up the same night.

Bram was doing the camera work very well, shooting =ff= in different top secret briefcase switching actions, walking through the old city center, through metro stations, running through Termini and simply posing in the sun and while doing this "work" they got to see a lot of Rome's amazing sightseeing places.
Their trip went from Termini towards the Colosseo, Forum romanum and back to Punto Nuovo via metro. =ff= really enjoyed the ancient city, the stunning buildings and the relaxing atmosphere, mixed with chaotic traffic, the smell of espresso and gasolina.

Around six o'clock in the afternoon the trio went back to their accomodation place and got themselves ready for the night. They continued to the Linux Club, where Bram finally met his 'returnofthespaceinvaders' video colleague, whom he had been waiting for the whole day and where =ff= found themselves some space for their laptops to cut, edit and finalize all the just-shot footage.

Besides working, they smoked a lot and followed some of the lectures and presentations held, but unfortunately most of them were just in italian. Concentration was quite diffult, because the music constantly jumped from arty noise galore to bumping syncopic drum'n'bass and minimal 4x4 elektro. =ff= and the spaceinvaders switched laptops every couple of minutes due to speed, max/msp licensing and final cut bugginess differences. it felt like an experimental laboratory, but finally after having major framedrop and timecode loss issues, capturing their footage, after effects and quicktime crashes, they were finished preparing their set. three hours delayed, at 5 in the morning, =ff= and returnofthespaceinvaders entered the stage. briefcases were opened, equipment cabled, the setup configuration ended in useless discussions with giaanluca, mitja and the audio engineer, and finally their set brightened the screens - all the screens... although LPM was equipped with a 15000 EUR high definition mixer and additional v4 mixer armada, it was somehow not possible to see =ff= narrative set on some screens and spaceinvaders video output on others, but only either or... =ff= had to accept a compromise and they mixed the spaceinvaders' output within their own set. the crowd seemed to like it and they rocked the LPM for almost an hour...it was a lot of fun for everyone.

the full =ff= vs. returnofthespaceinvaders gig

after the gig, the evening flowed into more smoking and drinking and chilling at the linux club until the four artists finally returned to their appartment by valeria with a small car that smelled like a kitchen in new dheli. a fast brake during transport of the catering food (chicken curry with rice) during the daytime had resulted in catapulting half of it through the whole car, diffusing into the seats... so everyone had to sit on spread newspapers trying not to tough anything else, holding their breath because the interior was ruled by the spicy smell of curry sauce.. a second matrace had to be taken from valerias house to their flat, which resulted in childish pursuits and battles and finnaly having arrived they drank all they could find in their unknown host's kitchen after dropping one of his hallway images... the 7-years-old rum did its work and they all dropped into their sacks and entered the world of dreamless coma sleep.
