©SPIEGEL ONLINE

PLAY is a gallery and a showroom for artistic projects, revealing to what extend film, video and art reciprocally influence one another. Far beyond classical gender distinctions, new narrative and visual languages form an alternative to the flood of images and their latent subliminal advertising divulgated by traditional mass media. The gallery’s goal and main interest is primarily focused on the changing of the visitor’s and contemplator’s visual patterns as well as reception channels, in order to invite and fascinate him in a positive way.

oh!:niveau:videos

vrijdag

the "morning" was spent like the one yesterday and around 3pm the convoi took off towards amsterdam. it was a beautiful drive through the sun and one hour later they arrived at the consortium and started transforming the pale white room into a nicely lit showroom, ready for the arty people to come. the night was very relaxed and the showcases were beautiful.

at 3pm the showcases and jam were over and devon and flux, the only two sober vjs drove back to utrecht through a yellow and rainy night.

the evening was closed with respectful and admiring worship of the extinct, but fascinating LaserDisk technology - celebrated in WJ's living room, "Class of 1999" terminator rip-off LD viewing, Schrobbeler-on-the-rocks sipping and sparklers.

donderdag

After a restorative and refreshing night dominated by cats walking over Flux, everyone slowly woke up, fRED was desperately trying to buy some bread, and finally they had a breakfast with cheese-bread, shrimpsalad, lots of coffee and orange juice.

the first hours after breakfast were spent in front of the laptops, nerding around and then =ff= and mogreens rigged their dv cameras and walked to a small joke article and costume shop around the corner to search for some props. quick decisions were made on two fake leather pilot caps, sunglasses and a set of bunny ears and teeth.

sticking to their spontaneous content & performance concept, =ff= spent some time in the city center of utrecht, filming themselves hunting mogreens, the bunny, who accidentally got a hold on the top secret =ff= dvd, that was hidden inside a cash machine, and trying to figure out what to do with it.

at 3pm everyone went to the ekko club and they talked about the set-up and timetable. after that, being back at WJ's the just-filmed dv material was captured and cut together until 6pm.

dinner time at the ekko with tofu and ricenoodles, soup and dessert.

at 9:30pm the party at ekko started and all participating VJs had their 25min showcases. the =ff= showcase was well received and appreciated by the locals. the club was not very crowded, but the audience seemes very interested in visual arts. all in all it was a very nice venue and event with inspiring talks, great music and even greater vj showcases.

around eleven, the main part of the event started: the vj battle "germany vs. holland". it was a lot of fun, because the audience had to vote for the better side by applause and by using the central v4 mixer, choosing which input side they wanted to see. lots of prizes and consolation gifts in form of schnaps were exchanged and instantly applied. the final result was 2:2 - unfortunately =ff= lost against pantoffeldiertjes, but given the fact that this was a home game, everyone was very pleased with the result.

the lights were turned on at 2am and all the electronics and gear were brought back to WJ's.

mogreens, soni riot, liudger, return of the space invaders, devon miles and =ff= spent the afterparty time in a few different night bars, tanking beers and socializing until around 4am when everyone went back home, tired and happy, looking forward to the world of dreams...
